The historic freeze in February left many Houstonians with damage to their homes; Lulu’s family was no exception. After the freeze, Lulu and her puppies were exiled to the yard; the owners claimed it was because of the damage to their home, but living out in a yard tied to a chain is no life at all. Local rescuers spoke with the family and begged them to relinquish Lulu and her tiny puppies so they didn’t have to live their life out in the elements. The family had already given several of them away, which rightfully concerned rescuers. What kind of homes they would find with zero vetting? Would they be banished to a similar fate on a chain when they were adults?
After much convincing, the owners finally agreed to give over the remaining puppies to rescuers. But they were adamant- under no circumstance would they give up Lulu. They did, though, agree to let her get spayed. Sadly, after the puppies were saved, the owners changed their minds and stopped responding.
The puppies were taken to BARC where we were able to save them from a similar fate to their mom. We sent them to our rescue partners and they all found homes in no time!
But the fact that their mom was still on the end of a chain silenced any celebrating. She spent every day since her puppies left on the end of that chain. Until the whole family was safe, there would be no happy ending to celebrate.
A few weeks ago, the original Good Samaritan that saved the puppies received a call from the owners: they were FINALLY willing to free Lulu from the chain! We were so ecstatic to hear the good news!
We quickly got in touch with our rescue partners at 2 Blondes who had saved Lulu’s puppies months earlier and they quickly agreed to take Momma Lulu as well!
Today, Lulu heads to her long-awaited new life in Colorado! We couldn’t be happier for this sweet girl finally getting the life she deserves, just like her puppies did before her.
We haven’t yet had Momma Lulu’s vetting or transport expenses covered, so if anyone is able to pitch in a few bucks for her new life, we would be so appreciative!
