We have an urgent request. Our local animal shelter, BARC, has unfortunately stopped conducting FIV/FeLV Combo Tests on the cats in their care. These tests are critical for identifying feline leukemia virus (FeLV) and feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) in cats, and are required by all of our transport partners to accept cats into their programs.
Now, we are faced with the challenge of covering the cost of these tests ourselves, which amounts to an additional $20 per cat saved. In 2025, on average, we rescued 37 cats from BARC every week, meaning we need to find a way to raise an extra $740 per week or $2,960 per month to continue providing this essential medical care.
Without these funds, we won't be able to save as many cats from BARC, leaving them at risk of euthanasia or returning them to the streets of Houston; it goes without saying that the streets are not a safe place for these friendly feline companions and RPM sadly does not have the funding in its budget to cover this huge increase in costs without help.
We understand that cats may not generate as many pledges as dogs, but we believe there are compassionate individuals out there who care deeply about our feline friends and know they deserve a chance at a happy and safe future.
